Accessing Assistive Technology and Home Modifications funding

Equipment & Technology

As a participant in a government-funded home care program, you'll know firsthand about how quickly your needs can change, so having access to funding that is responsive to your changing needs is essential.

One key change from the previous Home Care Packages (HCP) program to the new Support at Home program, is the separation of funding for Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) from ongoing care hours and services.

This new process reduces the time required to access necessary and timely assessments and support, such as those provided by occupational therapists, physiotherapists, or other allied health or medical professionals.

Importantly, funding can now be allocated to participants as a lump sum, allowing for the purchase of recommended aids, equipment, and other assistive technologies, as well as for approved home modifications.

If you are a transitioned HCP participant, you must first use any unspent HCP funds you have accumulated to cover your AT-HM needs before accessing the separate AT-HM funding scheme.

All other Support at Home program participants will need to follow a different process, which involves submitting a referral request for a Support Plan Review. My Aged Care will review your application and, if successful, allocate one of three funding tiers based on your needs.

Please contact your care partner if you wish to discuss your funding options for Assistive Technology or Home Modifications to meet your needs.
